With “The Pulse of the Stone”, the internationally active choreographer Helge Letonja leads the audience into an artistic oasis of music and abstract dance.
Chopin’s “Préludes”, considered masterpieces, become a crystallization point for reflection and exploration of the poetry of pure dance expression. In solos, duets and ensemble scenes, the choreographer condenses the different musical and emotional facets of the individual preludes into a complete choreographic work. His artfully articulated dance vocabulary unfolds in dialog with the clearly defined musical core motifs of the preludes: Sometimes in reference to, sometimes as a counterpoint to the music, the palette of dance expression ranges from melancholy pensiveness, through dense passages of breathlessness drawn in time, to stormy, erratic cascades. Letonja spans a sensual arc full of movement details, moods and tempi, in which the individual movement qualities of the dancers shine through. Originally developed for his ensemble Of Curious Nature, he brings this work to Kaiserslautern and complements the evening with a world premiere that he developed together with the dancers of the Pfalztheater.
Helge Letonja is completely dedicated to dance and the body. His dance language is permeated by many dance styles and shaped by his work with dancers from the Global South. In the universal language of dance, the resulting transcultural facets resonate intuitively with the audience.
With his Ensemble Of Curious Nature, Helge Letonja – choreographer, artistic director and curator – is constantly developing his dance vocabulary. Curiosity and somatic movement research are the foundation and fuel of his work. He has created highly acclaimed productions, including at the Salzburg Festival, the Semperoper Dresden, the Staatsoper Berlin, the New National Opera Tokyo, the Bremer Tanztheater, Montréal Danse, the dance company of the Staatstheater Kassel, the Vuyani Dance Theatre (South Africa) and many more.
